DYNOmite air cooled eddy current absorbers provide electrically (fast)  load control  - with great low RPM torque capability.

Air cooled eddy current absorbers are medium inertia, power absorbing devices which, unlike disk type brakes, do not depend upon friction to generate their retarding force. Each unit's rotating assembly consists of one (or two) air cooled steel rotor(s) mounted on a solid shaft - which is, in turn, supported by precision roller bearings.

Powerful 12, 96, or 192-volt DC electromagnets are anchored in a circular array to the stationary frame of each absorber unit. Their steel end poles are separated from the inner face of the rotors by a tiny air gap. The rotors incorporate centrifugal fan like cooling fins which pump cooling air across the rotors continuously as they spin.
The retarding force is developed by the action of the rotor shearing through lines of magnetic force. The energy required to drive the rotors (against this electrically regulated resistance) transfers the engine's horsepower (as heat) the spinning rotors. As with a disk brake absorber, the heat must be dissipated to prevent warping the rotors. Consequently, the DYNOmite Eddy Current Absorbers are both finned and vented to self cool as they turn. Note: Eddy current absorbers do not provide any significant torque (stall) resistance near zero RPM.

Custom Shafted Models available to suit most retrofit applications. Although the drawings below are shown with flat end flanges (that accept automotive or industrial U-joint flanges) we can build them with a wide variety of thru-shaft Both single end or double end shafts are available with standard straight keyways, taper lock, or splined options Please contact us for a quote on your unique requirements. Generic drawings below are typical for most flange models (except for our low inertia - single rotor "Micro" absorbers)
