can be installed on stock shifting gearcases with over-the-blade exhaust
wheels
to reduce or eliminate high speed gearcase blowout. Its "Bazooka" type
flare helps collapse vacuum pockets before they reach the blades, while
it contains the engines exhaust in a high velocity jet stream close to the
hub. The stainless steel ring's higher strength allows it to be made with
much larger exhaust outlet passages, 40% more than most cast aluminum rings. The
Vortex ring has an integral thrust washer surface to allow the installation of
most wheels without extra spacers and without grinding off the weed
cutters! And, since it rotates with the gearcase's shaft, the Vortex ring is even LEGAL in
stock racing classes. This ring is universal, fits most V6 applications except
Merc XR-4.
Exhaust Extension Ring - Our gearcase exhaust extension ring effectively lengthens the trailing edge of the standard gearcase housing to reduce the possibility of exhaust gases disturbing the correct flow of water to the blades' leading edge. A deliberate mismatch is also created just ahead of the ring's trailing edge to help collapse any vacuum pockets before they can reach the blades. The correct combination of nose cone kit, transom height, and exhaust extension ring have allowed many boats to exceed 100 mph, using full size gearcases, without blowout! The ring is installed or removed with just a hex key wrench and a few drops of Loc-Tite. This ring fits OMC V6's & V4 "loopers" with V6 gearcase, Merc (except XR-4) and Yamaha V6's.
