Standard dyno kit includes: 9" water-brake absorber, electronic torque-arm transducer, engine load control, DYNOmite handheld data-acquisition computer with the backlit LCD interface, AC power supply, stainless-braided hoses, puller bolt, data wiring harness, and protective carrying case. (Note: the required pump-to-absorber adapter assemblies are sold separately.)
How is it used? Mount the DYNOmite absorber (and appropriate pump adapter) in place of the boat’s standard nozzle and cone. Each pump adapter (sold separately) incorporates a shaft, driven by the impeller (without impeller removal). A load control valve (fed from your ¾" garden hose) allows you to regulate RPM by varying absorber drag (while holding the throttle open). You can simulate running at any MPH from idle to top end. The DYNOmite’s computer captures the engine’s RPM from an (integral absorber mounted) magnetic RPM pickup. Torque readings come directly from a full-bridge (temperature- compensated) torque arm. Results are never estimated from vague hydraulic-pump pressures. The computer then calculates and displays the exact power using the standard formula: Hp = Absorber Torque (in foot pounds) x RPM / 5,252.
DYNO-MAX™
Software option creates an entire engine dynamometer lab console
on your PC. Its features include: real-time trace graph display,
adjustable voice and visual limit warnings, inertia compensation, EGT
bar graph, simple-to-use pushbutton controls, a complete array of
operator-configurable analog and digital gauge ranges. Data displays
during the actual test and may also be saved for playback and generating
a full library of PWC model-to-model performance comparisons. Test
reports and publication-quality graphs can be printed for your customers
– in full color.
Integrate your own PC using DYNO-MAX, along with the appropriate automated electronic load and throttle control hardware options, for keyboard dyno control. Without special programming, you can easily execute complex engine durability simulations or break-in cycles.
DYNOmite data-acquisition electronics eliminate paper and pencil data logging. The DYNOmite computer records true Hp, torque, RPM, elapsed time, etc. (at up to 1,000 readings per second) while also automatically applying standard SAE correction factors for the barometric pressure, air temperature, and relative humidity. The test results all display on the DYNOmite’s LCD and can be printed to our optional portable ASCII printer.
Integral torque transducer uses only precision, temperature-compensated strain gauges that directly measure all the engine’s torque. Pushbutton, semi-automatic offset for the zero-torque calibration point is also standard.
Reads true impeller shaft Hp – beats trying to estimate the engine’s power and performance from inconsistent tank-pull “thrust” tests or the pump’s nozzle-pressure readings.
250+ Hp* capacity with our industry proven 9" toroidal-flow water-brake absorber. Pump adapter assemblies (available separately) let you move one DYNOmite among numerous models of PWCs (and snowmobiles too). Test most production watercraft engines from your ¾" garden-hose water supply.*
Precision designed and manufactured for strength, accuracy, and reliability. Each water-brake absorber, torque arm, load-valve control, pump-housing adapter, braided-hose fitting, etc. is beautifully CNC machined from anodized aircraft-aluminum billets and 17-4 (heat-treated) impeller-grade stainless steel. Even the unit’s fasteners are all made from stainless, for maximum corrosion resistance in a harsh marine environment.
Advanced standard features
including: Smart Record™ test-recording trigger points, data dampening
with spike filtering, user-set playback data averaging, inertia
acceleration compensation, full atmospheric correction, single-button
data playback, easy semi-automatic torque offset zeroing, and an
adjustable engine over-speed rev-limiter.
Everything gets tested,
right in the hull, the way you run it! Evaluate the air-box’s flow,
throttle adjustment, fuel delivery system, exhaust routing, motor mount
vibration problems, pump alignment… everything.
Develop quicker watercrafts by pinpointing exact RPM locations of horsepower loss or gain. See just which of the new components work, what tuning changes really help, how modifications affect durability, etc. Even map out the optimum “variable water flow” exhaust set-up for each RPM point.
Isolate pump efficiency gains from Hp improvements, without endless parts swapping and on-water testing. You will always be able to determine the correct target RPM to try and prop for whenever you are selecting impellers.
Easy test set-ups by mechanics
with no dyno or computer experience. Simply replace the pump’s nozzle
and cone with an appropriate pump adapter, bolt the DYNOmite to the
adapter, hook up a few wires and hoses, and test. You can run it outside
without an expensive dyno-cell ventilation system. Eliminates the hassle
of getting the boat into a test tank or to the ramp.
Automated load
control is easy to add by ordering the optional Electronic Servo Load
Valve (to replace the standard manual-load control). Just push the
buttons to change the test RPM, or select a sweep rate, and let the
computer handle the rest of the work.
Profitably troubleshoot off the water and avoid wasting valuable time trailering around to test. Why run up many non-billable hours separating owner’s imagined power losses from real ones? Even customers who normally whine over charges for lake testing willingly pay extra for dyno time – as long as it includes a computer printout. Dealers find that just displaying the DYNOmite, where customers will see it, enhances the shop’s image – and supports higher labor rates too!
